Very Pashmina currently stocks scarves from two world-class brands, Johnstons of Elgin and Ezma from India.
Johnstons Of Elgin
Johnstons have been producing beautiful hand-finished cashmere scarves since 1797. We stock their entire range of solid color and tartan scarves in soft cashmere, merino and lambswool, so whether you’re looking for a stylish plaid scarf or simple wool scarf you’ll find it here. We’re also stocking a selection of Johnstons seasonal scarves, including ombre stripped scarves, color blocked scarves and an ethnic ikat scarf design.
Ezma
The Ezma mill in India produces some of the finest cashmere shawls available today, with a hand-feel to rival anything manufactured in Italy. 100 percent pure pashmina yarns are used to produce the “Soufflé” range, a teasingly transparent whisper weight shawl that’s perfect for spring and summer. It’s not only lightweight but also extremely portable. It comes with an organza pouch, so you never have to worry about damaging your shawl when you carry it with you, and an envelope box, which makes it ideal for gifting.
With its thicker fabric and elegant diamond weave, the “Palette” range is the perfect fall / winter accessory. It comes with an organza travel wrap to protect the shawl when you’re on the go, and a designer box, which will come in handy whether you’re storing your own shawl or gifting it to a friend.
In addition to these ranges, we also stock: “Elegancia”, a range of patterned shawls made with unique herringbone and check patterns; “Reverso”, unique two-tone shawls, with subtle color differences between the sides; and “Imperiale”, a range of ultrafine shawls in classic colors. We also occasionally offer limited production runs of unique beaded adn embroidered shawls made with the highest quality fiber and sold exclusively through Very Pashmina.

To Someone Special
Looking for a gift that will last? Something that she’ll remember you by? Then pashminas are perfect! Chocolates are gone in an instant and flowers wilt in days, but a pashmina is a gift that will endure the test of time. A pashmina makes the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day, a Birthday or Christmas. It’s a great way to say sorry, a great way to say thank you, and just a great way to show how you really feel.
A Buying Guide For Men
So, you’ve realized that a pashmina is the perfect present. The next question is which color should you buy for the woman in your life? In our style guide we makes suggestions on which color pashminas complement different women.
A Thank You To A Friend
For friends that have been there for you when it mattered, whether they’re old friends from your school days when you were both ‘that high’ or a recent friend that helped you out in a fix, a pashmina is the perfect way to say thank you.
The Ideal Wedding Favour
A pashmina also makes an ideal wedding favor, a gift that will be remembered and worn for a long time after the big day. And you’ll be glad to know all our Ezma pashminas come in a presentation box that’s perfect for gifting at weddings (or any other event), but will also help you store your pashmina in the closet.
They also come complete with an organza carrying bag so you can keep your pashmina in your purse without fear that it will snag on a zip. That way you’ve always got your pashmina handy if a chilly autumn breeze starts to blow, or if someone in the office turns up the air conditioning and you get goose-pimples.
At Very Pashmina we know that women’s scarves are more than just simple accessories. If you loose a scarf you can’t just go out and buy another one to replace it, as you’ve lost more than just a material object, you’ve lost the key to the memories, feelings and stories that you collected whilst wearing it. Memories of where you were when you bought that bold red scarf that really makes your white shirt pop. Memories of the boyfriend who gave you your favorite silk scarf, who you’ve lost touch with now, but always wonder what might have been. Memories of the journey you were on when you picked up that light pink scarf that you always keep with you and the adventures you’ve had whilst wearing it. But every woman’s style is unique.
In our blog we talk to different women about their favorite scarves. We ask you where you got that scarf? How you wear those silk scarves? And what stories that pashmina could tell? We delve in your closet (we’re nosy like that) to find out whether you have only a couple of essential pieces or whether you’re a true scarf queen with tens, even hundreds of scarves. We chat with some women who have a huge box of pashmina scarves that they wear all winter long, a different colored pashmina shawl for every outfit, and other women who only own a couple of scarves… and they’re all black!
Donna Karen was absolutely right when she said “a scarf is the most versatile accessory”. Whether you’re sprucing up a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, trying a chic new look in the office, or adding the finishing touch to your evening dress, a scarf is the perfect accessory.
Scarves really are an accessory for all seasons too; ideal for wrapping up on a cold winter’s day; perfect for keeping warm when the office air con is on full blast during the summer. A good scarf is timelessly elegant, evoking memories of Hepburn and Hollywood in it’s hay-day, but effortlessly stylish even today.
“I wish I was born in that era: dancing with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, going to work at the studio dressed in beautiful pants, head scarves, and sunglasses.” Catherine Zeta-Jones
The word ‘pashmina’ has its origins in the Persian word ‘pashm’, which describes the very fine, downy hair shed from the soft underbelly of changthangi mountain goats. These goats are indigenous to high altitude regions of the Himalayas and are one of the breeds of goats that produce the better know cashmere wool. So, pashmina is a specific kind of cashmere wool. But that’s not all…
This luxuriously soft wool was woven into beautiful shawls worn by the royalty in Central Asia and then the aristocracy in Europe. So, originally pashmina was a fibre and a shawl was the product constructed from the fabric. Well, this is where it gets complicated.
Over time the word "pashmina" became so synonymous with the high quality shawls that it was used to produce, that people no longer to referred to these shawls as pashmina shawls, but simply called them pashminas. This is similar to the way in which “Scotch” has become identified with sticky tape….. and whisky. You get the picture!
So, as if that wasn’t complicated enough, there’s one other thing to take into consideration. Whilst the US government has strict standards for which products can be labelled as cashmere, because it has remained clearly identifiable as a material, there are no such regulations for pashmina due to its uncertain status as both a fabric and a product.
So, when your friend tells you she’s picked up a ‘pashmina’ for $5 on the street corner in New York, there’s no chance that that’s a genuine pashmina, one made from pashmina wool. They’ve just picked up a cheap imitation that might look cute for a while, but won’t feel as soft against your skin or keep you as warm when the temperature drops. That's why a ‘viscose pashminas’ is such a contradiction in terms. It's a shawl… and a nasty one too!
That’s why Very Pashmina actually lists our products as cashmere and detail the precise fiber content so you can be sure that you’re getting the highest quality product available.
